Let’s be honest: finding a proper cigar shop in Paris is harder than finding a French person who’ll admit they enjoy anything. France’s smoking laws make indoor cigar smoking about as legal as indoor croissant burning, which means the few shops that survive do so on sheer willpower and tourist dollars. Le Lotus is the exception.
The Shop
Located at 4 Rue de l’Arcade — a stone’s throw from Gare Saint-Lazare and the kind of Parisian side street that looks like it was designed by a film set decorator — Le Lotus is, by most accounts, the real cigar shop in Paris. Not “a” cigar shop. The cigar shop. The one the locals actually go to.
The space is bright, clean, and appealingly old-world without crossing into theme-park territory. The walk-in humidor sits off to one corner — slightly smaller than La Civette’s, but better curated. You’ll find a serious selection of Cuban cigars, Davidoff, and a complete range of accessories, snuff, and pipes. This isn’t a souvenir shop with a few Cohibas behind glass; it’s a proper tobacconist.
The Selection
The Cuban stock is what brings people in. Vegas Robaina, Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagás — the full Habanos lineup, well-maintained and properly humidified. The staff know their inventory and, somewhat refreshingly for Paris, are described by visitors as “kind” and “helpful” rather than the default Parisian retail posture of mild contempt.
Davidoff fans won’t be disappointed either. The shop carries the full Davidoff range alongside the Cuban selection, making it one of the few places in Paris where you can compare a Dominican and a Habano side by side without leaving the room.
The Vibe
There’s no dedicated smoking lounge inside Le Lotus itself — remember, France — but the location is surrounded by cafes with outdoor seating where smoking is tolerated. The classic move: buy your cigar at Le Lotus, walk two minutes to a nearby cafe, order a glass of Bordeaux, and smoke on the terrace like you’re auditioning for a Hemingway biography. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s so French that it somehow makes the experience better.
The Verdict

Le Lotus is the best cigar shop in Paris, and it’s not particularly close. The selection is excellent, the staff is friendly (by Paris standards, which is saying something), and the location is perfect for combining a cigar run with a cafe crawl. The only knock is the lack of an indoor smoking lounge — but that’s a French law problem, not a Le Lotus problem. If you’re in Paris and you smoke cigars, this is your first stop. Probably your only stop.
