Las Vegas is a city built on excess — 4,000-room hotels, restaurants with $500 tasting menus, and a volcano that erupts on schedule every 15 minutes. So naturally, the best cigar shop in Vegas isn’t on the Strip. It’s behind Caesars Palace, in a strip mall, next to a parking lot. Because of course it is.
The Shop
CigarBox, owned by Las Vegas entrepreneur Michael Frey of Freyboy Tobacco, is a 2,300-square-foot shrine to the good life, tucked away at 4046 Dean Martin Drive — just on the other side of I-15, about two miles from the neon madness of downtown. Frey’s background in hospitality shows. The man also operates the Montecristo Lounge inside Caesars Palace and Casa Fuente in the Forum Shops, but CigarBox is his personal project — and it shows in the details.
The aesthetic: red brick walls, hardwood floors, comfortable leather chairs spaced nicely with side tables and ashtrays. There’s a round wooden table in the corner that could double as a card table (it’s Vegas, after all), a large conference table at the far end, and two private rooms that are marked “reserved” but are actually free — just ask. No membership fee. No pretension. Just a well-designed space for smoking.
The Humidor
The walk-in humidor is large, well-laid-out, clean, and properly humidified — which sounds like basic requirements until you’ve been in enough humidors that fail at least two of those four things. The selection runs from big brands to select medium and small brands, and prices are clearly displayed on the boxes.
Here’s the thing about Vegas cigar pricing: everything on the Strip is marked up because, well, it’s the Strip. CigarBox runs about $2 above standard MSRP — meaning you’re paying a small premium compared to a shop in Florida, but significantly less than what you’d pay at a hotel cigar lounge 10 minutes away. Fair for the location, fair for the product.
The Bar
Full liquor bar. Beer, wine, spirits, soft drinks, and — importantly — an espresso machine. The red brick motif continues behind the bar, the bar top is polished granite, and there are comfortable stools for those who prefer to smoke at the bar rather than in the leather chairs. On a recent visit, the double espresso paired with a cigar selection was described as “the right call” — which is the kind of understatement you can trust.
The Details
There are flat-screen TVs strategically placed, a cigar store Indian (obligatory), and an antique cigarette dispensing machine on one wall that’s more conversation piece than functional equipment. The bathroom was described as “immaculate” — which, as any cigar lounge veteran knows, tells you more about pride of ownership than any Yelp review ever could.
Hours: Open daily, 10am to 8pm. Which brings us to the one complaint worth mentioning: for a city that runs 24/7, 8pm feels early. Vegas doesn’t even wake up until 10pm. If CigarBox stayed open until midnight, it would be the perfect off-Strip cigar destination.
The Verdict

CigarBox is the kind of place you stumble upon and then tell everyone about. It’s comfortable, well-run, fairly priced (for Vegas), and the staff knows their stuff. The private rooms are a nice touch, the bar is real, and the humidor is solid. The early closing time is the only real drawback — but if you’re planning a Vegas cigar run, CigarBox should be your first stop. Save the Strip lounges for when you want to overpay.
